When I joined Elevo in 2023, the organization had just gone through a period of rapid growth, and the out-of-school-time landscape was (and still is) changing dramatically in California.
As I mentioned in another case study, my golden rule for content strategy is to value what has come before. Elevo is an organization that has been around for almost 20 years, and their mission is to "transform the well-being of students, so the look forward to coming to school." Through the rapid period of growth spurred by the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) in California, a key differentiator for Elevo was their ability to recruit, train, and hire staff, even in areas where staffing had previously been a challenge for school districts. While that is still a key strength of the organization, there was so much more to talk about. Through conversation and collaboration with stakeholders across the company, the themes about what made Elevo unique became clearer, and I shaped them into three key differentiators:
What Makes Elevo Different?
Our Approach
We take a whole child approach to transforming student well-being:
• Physical: We get students moving and reinforce healthy choices.
• Mental: We create an environment of safety, trust, and belonging for all students.
• Academic: We help students succeed academically and have a positive relationship with school and learning.
Our Coaches
There is a reason we call our staff “Coaches.” They are the motivators and mentors for the youth we are here to inspire. Coaches exemplify our mission, approach, and promise
to students, schools, and families. They are the core of everything we do, and our approach to recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining coaches is unsurpassed.
Our Capacity to Partner With Districts
Our consistent approach to Coach training and the design of our curriculum framework allow us to customize our programs and services to the exact needs of a district. One of our key strengths is our recruitment process. Hiring and retaining a diverse, high-quality workforce in a tight market takes experience and skill. Elevo has a sizable recruitment team and year-round partnerships with universities, colleges, and local referral networks. Whether districts serve 4 or 400 schools, we have the capacity and experience to meet their needs.
These key differentiators formed the foundation of the organization's core story moving forward.
